Walking the path

One little compliment can make you feel great. So give me a compliment, anything in the entire world, even that my shoelaces are pretty. Put this in your journal. Sometimes I encounter such genius and enlightenment that it dwarfs me, makes me feel like the most uninspired, ignorant, naive little girl on the planet.

When this happens, a series of emotions go through me.

First, there's wonder at the genius. And then jealousy, despair, and the need to copy, to be like this person.

Then comes the pride, and the feeling of joy that there is such genius, that it still exists in our world.

There's pity and sorrow for those who possess this genius, the animosity they must face, how unacknowledged their true brilliance is.

And then there's hope, hope that if I recognize this amazing person, other people probably do too, and if hundreds or thousands or maybe even millions can see it, if this person can become famous, if that many of them can see this amazing feat of the human mind...

Then maybe one or two will see me, when I've grown to my own enlightenment, whatever that turns out to be. And then maybe one day, just like such genius inspires me, maybe I can inspire someone else.
